
In the Nederland basketball tournament LCM lost two close games.
LCM lost to PNG 35-31. PNG scored 28 of their points in the second half. Andrew Daspit, Ayson Simmons and Katon Brown each scored 7. Ram Polavaru scored 12 for the Indians.
LCM lost to Kelly 38-37. The Bears were a disappointing 5-15 from the FT line. Keegan Sonnier lead LCM in scoring with 12.
Orangefield Junior High faced the Silsbee Tigers and finished with one win, two losses, and a tie. The 7th Grade B team continued to improve this week and came away with the tie against Silsbee, 17-17. The Bobcats started off hot with a three coming from Kamryn Revere in the opening moments of the game, but the Tigers would not go away. The Cats were led in scoring by Jordan Ritter with 6 points, followed by Kamryn Revere and Jayce Gipson with 3 points each. This moves their record to 0-2-1 on the year.
The 8th Grade B team came out and got the Bobcats only win on the night with a score of 23 to 10 over the Silsbee Tigers. The Bobcats started off a little slow, but got hot through the second and third periods. Orangefield’s leading scorer was Jacob Harvey who had 10 points on the night, followed by Cooper Lowe with 6 points. This makes the 8th Grade B team’s record 2-1 on the year.
In the third game of the night, the 7th grade A team was looking to string a couple of wins together. Orangefield got out to a good start trailing the Tigers by only 1 point after the first, but their opponent proved to be too much the rest of the way. The leading scorer for the Bobcats was Aaron Miller who poured in 6 of his 10 points in the 4th period. However, the surge came a little too late for the Bobcats and they fell to Silsbee 45-22.
The 8th Grade A team knew they would be in for a challenge versus a talented Silsbee team, but they shot out to an early lead. The Cats could not hold on and relinquished the lead as they went on to see the Tigers open things up with a 17-2 second quarter. Orangefield did much better against the press in the second half and played Silsbee 14-9 the rest of the way. The final score was 42-18 in favor of the opponent, but the Cats showed a resolve we haven’t seen in their previous two efforts. Guard, Clayson Choate handled the ball well and led the team in scoring with 6 points and post, Colby Gonzales led the team on the defensive glass and was a strong presence in the paint for the Bobcats. Orangefield drops to 0-3 in district play and will turn around quickly as they travel to Henderson Middle School next Monday.
The WOSMS boys basketball teams hosted HJ Thursday night and finished 3-1. The 7B team started the night with a come from behind 12-11 win. Jalen Thompson lead the team with 6 points. In the 8B game the Stallions broke the trend of 2 straight ties this season with a 20-16 win over the Hawks. Labarius Spraggins was the leading scorer with 10 points. The 7A dropped the lone game of the night losing to a talented HJ team 15-33. Darryl Bowns lead the team with 6 points. In the final game of the night the 8A team trailed the entire game, but turned things up in the 4th period and came away with a hard fought victory 42-35. Keontae Strother lead the Stallions with 19 points. The boys will host Mauriceville Monday night with the first game at 5:00pm.
