Last season the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs knocked on the door and finished just out of the playoffs. Coach Randy Ragsdale has his entire starting five back from last year’s squad including star Eriel Jordan. Ragsdale reminds that Jordan was injured late in the next to last game last year and just returned to the lineup in late November. In her first game back Eriel scored 18 points. The coach confesses it does not hurt to have her back on the floor.
The five starters saw a tremendous amount of playing time last year, and Coach Ragsdale looks for them to step up and hold the line this year. Joining Jordan are Adreama Beverly, Betty McDonald, Nakiya Platt, and Daisha Broussard. Platt was down temporarily with an injury, but she is back and Ragsdale thinks they’re going to be okay.
Added to the Lady Mustangs this year, Coach Ragsdale has several young ladies that will see playing time and will contribute for West Orange-Stark. Ragsdale is excited about freshman Diamond Judge who will get a lot of playing time, and he thinks will be the real deal in the future. Gabby Robinson is moving up from the junior varsity, knows the game, likes to play, and will see a number of minutes on the floor. New to West Orange-Stark is 6-footer Kristen Jackson who could be a force in the paint and move some people around according to Ragsdale. He is looking forward to these Lady Mustangs doing some good work.
Coming close last year has the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs hungry for success this season, but Ragsdale reminds that the Lady Mustangs compete in a very tough district and they will take it one game at a time. Ragsdale really believes West Orange-Stark can make a run in district since his starting five have been playing together since they were sophomores and everybody in the district knows who they are. The Lady Mustangs play against solid teams like Little Cypress-Mauriceville, Bridge City is still good, Coach Willis has moved to Orangefield which should raise their level of performance, Ragsdale thinks everybody in the district will give West Orange-Stark a good contest. Coach Ragsdale is hoping the Lady Mustangs will be right in the middle of it, and he states that whoever performs the best in each game will be the winner. Ragsdale is preparing his girls to perform their best and they’ll see what happens.
