State District Judge Dennis Powell is sending an armed robber to prison for 30 years. 23-year-old Freddie Crochett IV of Orange pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery for pointing a long-gun at two employees in a June hold-up at Sun Loan Co.
Crochett, who had no previous felony record, opted to have the judge give his punishment. Crochett and his mother testified in his behalf. Assistant District Attorney Krispen Walker had one of the robbery victims testify.
Judge Powell, who presides in the 163rd District Court, gave the punishment as 30 years.
The Sun Loan on 16th Street was robbed by a lone gunman about 3 p.m. on June 30. In August, four men robbed the same company. Orange police arrested four men in connection with that robbery.
