The West Orange Volunteer Fire Department has a new chief. The West Orange City Council approved the appointment of Terry Veitch by Mayor Roy McDonald as the new fire chief. Veitch has been with the department for 12 years since he joined as a junior fire fighter.
Veitch said he has goals and plans for his fellow fire fighters. He hopes to write them down and share them with the other volunteers. Veitch commented the West Orange Volunteer Fire Department is small, but its members are like brothers and he would like to keep the family atmosphere in the department with everything he does.
Mayor McDonald appointed Dean Dyson the interim fire chief to his previous position of assistant chief. Dyson’s appointment was also approved by the city council. Both Veitch and Dyson were given an oath of office by City Attorney Joe Alford.
Last night’s meeting of the city council will be the only one this month in West Orange. The council will hold its lone meeting next month on December 14, and the time has been changed to start the meeting at 5:00 PM. McDonald indicated this may be the time for all future city council meetings.
