The Deweyville Pirates play their final game of the season against the state ranked Crockett Bulldogs. Pirates’ Coach Lance Dale looks at the Crockett offense and the Bulldogs’ outstanding quarterback Case Robinson. Dale says Crockett is based out of the Spread from which the Bulldogs like to throw the ball primarily to their athletes in space forcing the opponent to make a lot of open field tackles. Speaking of athletes, Coach Dale puts their quarterback Robinson at the top of list. He is really fast and can throw the ball down the field; Dale adds the Crockett quarterback does a great job.
Keeping Robinson and the Crockett offense on the sidelines will be a goal for Deweyville Friday night. Coach Dale analyzes the Bulldogs’ defense and how the Pirates plan to attack it. Dale hints Deweyville will use some different formations and blocking assignments to throw off the Bulldogs’ 4-3 Defense. Their linebackers and tackles all play well for Crockett according to Dale. The Pirates’ goal is to control the football with a solid run game. Dale points out Robinson and the Bulldog offense is very explosive, but not if they are not on the field.
Friday’s game ends the second season for Dale who believes Deweyville has improved this year over the last one and has better days ahead. Dale states the Pirates have three wins through their first nine games which are more than they won last season and had a couple of near misses as well. The coach indicates the enrollment numbers for Deweyville have been turned into the UIL, and there is a good chance the Pirates will drop in classification next season. That should mean a less difficult schedule than the last two seasons, plus a lot of hard work will provide good things for Deweyville in the future Dale predicts.
