Kroger on 16th Street is undergoing a $316,000 interior remodeling and was the biggest new project in Orange during September, according to city building permits. Overall, the number of permits for building and remodeling was low.
One permit was issued for a new residence. The $90,000 house is being built by James Turner Construction in the 600 block of Moreell Street in Navy Park. Permits also included one for the demolition of the old house on the lot. The new house is part of the hurricane recovery program for low-income homeowners.
Six permits were issued for a total of $19,799 worth of residential remodeling plus three re-roof projects for a total of $20,580.
One commercial re-roofing permit worth $18,000 was issued for Green-Dileo Dentistry on Elm Avenue.
Community Church on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive got a permit for an $8,000 air-conditioning system for the Community Christian School weight room. Two permits for residential air-conditioning and heating work were issued for a total of $4,360.
Also, the city issued four permits for demolitions, including a commercial permit to tear down the remains of the former Heaven’s Serenity house on Park Avenue. The building was destroyed by an arson fire in July.
