West Orange City Secretary Theresa Van Meter accepted Monday evening an award for the city’s excellence in financial recordkeeping and reporting. Jerry Dale, the interim finance director for the City of Port Arthur, presented the Certificate of Achievement from the Government Finance Officers Association to Van Meter. She thanked him for the award and credited Ramona Block for her outstanding support in the West Orange city hall. Mayor Roy McDonald recognized both Van Meter and Block for their stellar work in the handling of the finances for the City of West Orange and reporting it in all the ways that need to be reported.
In other business the City Council appointed Ruth Hancock from the West Orange Cove School District to serve on the Fair Housing Committee for the city. Like other cities in the area West Orange approved an ordinance denying a rate increase request by Entergy Texas. The Council also approved the applications of two persons to be members of the West Orange Volunteer Fire Department.
