
The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce announced their Students of the Month. From Orangefield High School meet Alora Scogin. Scogin was presented her certificate by Ambassador Beverly Perry at the Chamber’s October Networking Coffee on October 13th hosted by The Classy Peacock. Alora Scogin, is the daughter of Jeffery and Ozhny Scogin. She is ranked 19 out of 121 and has a GPA of 3.83. Alora’s awards and honors include:
• Honor Roll 2012 to present
• National Honor Society
• Received numerous “Big O” awards
• All Star Cast Award for UIL One Act Play
• Highest average in Cosmetology 2015

Her community service includes: Special Olympics, Theater Clinic, Vacation Bible School and Church work days at Mauriceville Church of Christ, Florida College Day Creek Camp mentor, canned good drives and volunteering at Meet in the Middle Prom.
Jennifer Rumsey, English and Foreign Language teacher, said, “Alora Scogin is a very creative and talented young lady. She was a joy to teach in my English III class. Alora excelled academically in English the entire year. She is an excellent student, a skilled writer, and a very talented artist.”
Scogin has been accepted to Florida College and will begin classes in the fall of 2016.
The Bridge City High School Student of the Month for October is Jordan Curl. Jordan received his certificate at the Chamber’s Networking Coffee on October 13th hosted by The Classy Peacock. Jordan is the son of Jeff and Crystal Curl. He has a GPA of 4.82 and ranked #2 of 164. Jordan’s awards and honors include:

• ATSSB All-Region and All-Area Band Member
• TMEA All-Region Band Member
• Superior Ratings at UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest
• Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Voice of Democracy Award

In community service, Jordan has volunteered at Southeast Texas Hospitality Center and Winfree Baptist Church Vacation Bible School.
Faye Parish, Secondary Math Teacher, said, “Jordan Curl is an awesome young man. He is currently ranked #2 in a highly competitive class. Jordan is a recognized National Merit Award Student placing him in the top 3 percent of students in the nation. He has taken a full AP/Honors load and several dual credit college classes. He has excelled in all of them. Jordan is very active in our award winning band as well as Student Council, Spanish club and the Academic Team. He was also a regional qualifier for varsity tennis. He is kind and caring, two things that will help him succeed in the medical field. You will not find a more polite, moral, well-rounded individual than Jordan Curl.”
Cathy Riley, English Department Chair and Director of Bridge City Strutters, said, “JORDAN CURL is a leader in all aspects and a stellar student. I came to know JORDAN when I taught him English III AP, and I am currently teaching him in my English IV AP class. JORDAN is a conscientious student who strives for perfection – an absolute gentleman and an outstanding role model for others to emulate. In fact, JORDAN is revered by BCHS student body and faculty because he demonstrates a positive influence as he leads by example.”
Russell Tipton, Director of Bands, said, “Jordan is a fantastic student and I am so proud that he was selected for this honor, by the English department. He is an unquestioned leader in the band program and I am thrilled to see that his leadership skills are carrying over into other aspects of his school responsibilities. Way to go, Jordan!”
After graduation, Jordan plans to major in nursing and become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
