Saturday is the tax ratification election in the Orangefield School District. Early voting concluded Tuesday for the election. As of Tuesday afternoon 114 votes had been cast. Orangefield School Superintendent Dr. Stephen Patterson held the final of his information meetings for citizens Tuesday night at the Orangefield Elementary School. Dr. Patterson said the purpose of those meetings was to share the facts why this election was called, share the facts for what the school trustees will utilize the increased revenues, and to share with the Orangefield community the responsibility the school board takes with their tax money and how they have been using the school funds that the district previously had. Saturday the polls will be open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Polling locations on Saturday will be the Pecan Acre Baptist Church, the Orangefield High School Library, the Orange County Expo Center, and the Drainage District Office on Old Highway 90. The Orangefield School Board called for the tax ratification election to allow them to be able to raise the tax rate above $1.04 per $100 valuation on property for maintenance and operations.
