Orange police made two methamphetamine arrests during the weekend. They also encountered people giving them wrong names. A patrol officer Friday afternoon saw a man he knows driving a Suzuki pickup truck and checked with police dispatchers. The man was wanted for misdemeanor city warrants, so the officer stopped the truck in the 800 block of Strickland Drive. The officer reported the passenger was nervous and furtive. After finding out the passenger was wanted on five misdemeanor warrants, the officer arrested him. City Will Adjust For Flood Protection
Orange Public Works Director Jim Wolf said the city has contingency plans for riverfront development in the case of construction of levees for a flood protection system. The plan to adjust to a levee system could cost $10 million to $12 million and the city would seek government grants, Wolf said. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced a total of $3.9 billion in federal money is designated for a "coastal spine" system of flood control. Because of a sold-out benefit concert and a Tennessee community foundation, the Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana is distributing grants in a neighboring Texas county to benefit access to mental health services.
