Orange EDC Welcomes Business With Grant
The City of Orange Economic Development Corporation board along with the Orange City Council Tuesday approved a $75,000 grant for Triangle Rescue to build a training center. Economic Development Director Jay Trahan said the training center will cost a total of $560,000. It will be built on Interstate 10 East near the American Red Cross building. Triangle Rescue is an established company that trains employees from area industries for emergency response for hazardous materials spills, fires and other problems. 16th Street Needs A Makeover
Sixteenth Street has businesses, but no charm and ambience. Orange Planning Director Kelvin Knauf presented the Orange City Council with ideas to make the street inviting for people. "There's no easy, simple solutions to this problem," he said. The street, part of Texas Highway 87, is the main entrance into Orange from Interstate 10. Council members, led by Mayor Larry Spears Jr., have been working on ways to clean and beautify the city. Bobcats Ready For Jaguars
This year really will be a new season for Orangefield. The Bobcats have dropped in classification, and they are no longer the smallest school in Class 4A in Texas. There were no major injuries for the Bobcats coming out of the scrimmages. Head Coach Josh Smalley believes the Bobcats have prepared well to get ready for the start of the football season. The goal was to get better each week and Orangefield played better in its scrimmage with Lumberton than it did in the first one with Little Cypress-Mauriceville. Teachers Receive Money For Supplies
On Friday, August 24, Jim Malain with Entergy delivered a check for $22,250 to be used by teachers throughout the Little Cypress-Mauriceville District for classroom supplies. One category of losses from Hurricane Harvey that is not covered by FEMA, is the tens of thousands of dollars in classroom resources that teachers have bought with their own money and collected through the years. Bridge City was plagued by injuries last season, and Head Coach Allen DeShazo believes the Cardinals are ready to start this year with all hands on deck. Thief Strolls Into Dollar General
Police are looking for this man who broke into the Dollar General Store at 3024 16th Street early Monday morning. An alarm alerted police about 4 a.m. The man got inside by forcing open the back door and took several items. Call the OPD Detectives Division at 883-1095 if you can identify this thief. Landfill Now Open Three Days A Week
The Orange County Landfill will be open only three days a week starting this Thursday. The Commissioners Court voted Tuesday to have the landfill open for public use on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The hours of operation will be 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturdays. Commissioner Johnny Trahan chairs the committee that oversees the Citizen Collection Station more commonly known as the landfill.
