Thurston George “T. G.” Baber, Jr., 76, of Orange, Texas, passed away on August 31, 2018, at his home in Orange. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on October 17, 1941, he was the son of Thurston George Baber, Sr. and Dorothy Ann Baber. T. G. retired from the United States Air Force after serving his country proudly for many years. He graduated from Stark High School in 1959. T. Pedestrian Identified
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has positively identified the victim of an auto-pedestrian crash that occurred early Thursday morning on Interstate 10 in Orange County. Sergeant Stephanie Davis with the DPS reports that the deceased victim is Brejon Talia Robinson, age 21, of Beaumont. The preliminary investigation revealed that Beaumont police records listed Robinson as a missing person. Initial reports from the DPS indicated that a 2007 Freightliner truck tractor trailer was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 at about 2:00 AM Thursday. County Working Off Of Reserves
Unlike many of the municipalities in the county, the Orange County Commissioners Court has chosen to not raise taxes next year. Despite lower property values and increased expenses in the wake of Tropical Storm Harvey last year the county tax rate will remain at 54.2 cents per 100 dollars value. BEAUMONT, Texas – Eight different players scored a touchdown as the Lamar University Cardinals overwhelmed Kentucky Christian, 70-7, in the 2018 season opener Saturday evening at Provost Umphrey Stadium. It marks the first time since the 2015 season that LU has won its season opener. Problem Holding Up Sunset Completion
People who use Sunset Drive should not give up on the repaving project that has been stalled almost two months. Orange City Manager Dr. Shawn Oubre this week said the company that owns the natural gas line under the road will be moving the line soon. The new paving for the blacktop road started July 5 and ended that morning. The contractor for the city hit a natural gas line and the project stopped. Oubre said no one knew the gas line was about an inch below the road. The repaving includes tearing out the old asphalt and then laying new layers. The Nederland Bulldogs came into Mustang country and left with a 19-18 win on opening night of the 2018 season. It's the first home loss since a 32-31 defeat to Friendswood in 2011. The state ranked Woodville Eagles gave solid evidence for their being a favorite in Class 3-A on Friday night. Eagles defeated the Class 4-A Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears 40-8 at Eagle Stadium in Woodville. After the two teams exchanged punts to start the game Woodville began a punching running attack that LC-M just could not stop. The Vidor Pirates high-powered offense was too much for the Montgomery Bears as Vidor secured an opening night victory to start the 2018 football season. Vidor defeated Montgomery 42-14 at Pirate Stadium in Vidor on Friday night courtesy of a rushing attack which churned out 499 yards on the ground, led by running back Zach Dahlenberg’s 240 yards on just 11 carries. The Orangefield Bobcats took on the Houston Kipp Jaguars Friday at F.L. McLain stadium. OF left the stadium 1-0 after a 61-0 win. The Bobcats started the game with an early lead of 6-0 thanks to a good running attack that ended with a Blake Bradley touchdown.
