Two teenage brothers were taken to a hospital by ambulance Saturday evening after the go-cart they were riding on went into a ditch, according to Orange police. An officer went to the 5600 block of Mickler Drive off East Allie Payne Road at 7:25 p.m. Saturday. The father of the two told the officer they had been transported to a hospital. An out-of-town man was beaten and his wallet stolen late Sunday morning. We received a report of a couple of burglaries in the Deweyville area. They stole a 2002 white Crown Victoria at one of the places. He was still driving the car when he was arrested. He is still in jail. We have two people in jail on the burglary where they stole side by side, four wheeler, pots and pans, sheets off the beds and eats. During a special Budget/Tax Rate Hearing of the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Board of Trustees, Region 5’s Marianne Kondo and Dr. Danny Lovett, presented the Region 5 Secondary Teacher of the Year Award to LCM High School’s Terry Morris. The Orange Convention and Visitors Bureau will be hosting the 11th annual “Showdown on the Sabine” SPORT Tunnel Boat Races. This event will be held at the City of Orange Boat Ramp on Friday, September 14, from 3 P.M. – 6 P.M. Saturday, September 15, from 9 A.M. – 5 P.M., and Sunday, September 16, from 9 A.M. – 5 P.M. Pinehurst Hosts Annual Picnic
Rain did not dampen the fun and food that was shared at the 18th Annual Pinehurst Senior Citizens Picnic at the Family Worship Center. Shaun Branham sang and entertained those attending the picnic in the covered dining area. The Orange Blossom Line Dancers strutted their stuff to the delight of the audience. Sunset Country Club Being Renovated
Sunset Grove Country Club will be closing the clubhouse while it undergoes a major renovation. “The plan is to reopen in January,” said Ross Smith, speaking on behalf of the shareholders. The building currently consists of a kitchen, restaurant, ballroom, bar, two smaller rooms, locker rooms, offices, and a patio. The renovations include leasing the restaurant to Stephen Nguyen, the owner of Reel Cajun Restaurant. “He has successful Reel Cajun restaurants in Port Arthur and Lumberton and we’re looking forward to him coming to Orange,” Smith said. Woman Struck, Killed By Train
The Newton County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 11:05 p.m. on September 2, 2018 from Kansas City Southern Railroad stating that one of their trains just struck a person jogging on the railroad track. The Newton County officers responded to the Kansan City Southern Railroad tracks just east of County Road 4181 in the Hartburg area of Newton County.
