Little Cypress-Mauriceville is proud of its nickname as the Battlin’ Bears. With the baseball season a few months away LC-M could be called the “Battin’ Bears” as Head Coach Steve Griffith has his players getting plenty of opportunities to swing their bats. Griffith stated the Bears reached a milestone on Tuesday by achieving their one thousandth live plate appearance since school started this fall. Olson Wins LCM Card Contest
Each year the Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD Administration holds a Christmas card design contest through the LCM High School’s art classes of Betsy Kaufman. This year's Christmas Card winner, Michelle Olson, was recognized for her design at the December Board of Trustees meeting. Besides having her design on the card, the winner also receives a $50 award. Sherry Combs, Community Relations Coordinator for the District presented the $50 award to Olson, as well as 20 cards for her own use and a poster of the design. Gene Bouillion Retiring From Port of Orange
Gene Bouillion, the executive director of the Port of Orange, has announced he is retiring next year. He has held the job for 20 and a half years. Bouillion said he is serving on search committee with two members of the port board to find his replacement. He plans to work until March 1, but will stay longer if needed to help train his replacement. Bouillion had a career in rice exports shipping before taking the job at the Port of Orange. Bobcat Leading Bruins To State
The West Brook Bruins are going to play for the State Championship in 6A Division II Saturday at 3pm against the Longview Lobos. The Bruins haven’t been to the State Championship game since they won it all in 1982. But an Orangefield Bobcat has led his team up the ladder in just his second season as a head coach. Orange Police Weekend Reports
Orange police went to Interstate 10 Friday night for a call about domestic abuse in a moving vehicle. A 66-year-old Lumberton man was arrested for assault-family violence. Police had a 911 call near 8 p.m. to westbound Interstate 10 near the 880 mile marker. The patrol officer saw a 2018 GMC SUV pulled to the side and a woman standing outside of it. The 34-year-old woman told the officer she had picked her husband up at a Louisiana casino. He had been drinking and was verbally abusive.
