The American Southwest Conference named sophomore KJ Miller of Mary Hardin-Baylor as the special teams player of the week. Miller averaged 62.5 yards per punt return, including a 65-yarder for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Miller (WOS) also had two receptions for 69 yards with a 61-yard touchdown. The Lady Bobcats resumed play in the YMBL tournament Saturday and brought home the second place trophy from the small school bracket. They defeated Sabine Pass, West Hardin, and Woodville to advance to the Championship Game where they fell in two sets to Hardin (25-11), (26-24). The Deweyville Lady Pirates won consolation at the YMBL Tournament Saturday. They began the day with a tough loss against Buna (14-25)(26-24)(13-15), but finished the day strong with three straight wins to take home the consolation trophy. Woodway Chooses Oubre As New City Manager
Longtime Orange City Manager Dr. Shawn Oubre has been offered the same position with the city of Woodway, Texas following an interview on Friday. Woodway is a town of 8900 located southwest of Waco. Oubre was one of three finalists for the job after more than 50 applied according to the Waco Tribune. Council voted 7-0 to offer Oubre the position. Oubre has been the city manager in Orange for the last 13 years, coming over from Vidor. It's the longest anyone has held that position in the city.
