The Bridge City Cardinals played its first home game of the 2018 football season, and it was just what the Red Birds needed as the Cardinals claimed a 13-6 hard-fought victory over the Anahuac Panthers on Friday night at Larry B. After Orangefield’s initial struggle to move the ball, Shepherd started the game with a handoff and a break up the middle for the first touchdown of the game. Three of the four biggest plays of the night for the Newton Eagles all resulted in touchdowns as the defending 3A D2 State Champs beat West Orange-Stark on a muddy field Friday night.
