Assaults and thefts were the main complaints answered by the Orange County Sheriff's Office last week. Five asssaults and five thefts were reported. In addition, deputies had three calls about burglaries of habitations, and two calls about unauthroized us of a motor vehicle. One of those calls involved a stolen travel trailer. PH Budget Adopted; Gunn Approved
The City Council in Pinehurst adopted the budget and the tax rate for next year during its meeting Tuesday evening. The tax rate was increased by three cents to $0.72762 cents per 100 dollars value. At the beginning of the meeting City Secretary Debbie Cormier reported that sales taxes are picking up for Pinehurst. The general fund was also in good shape with the approach of the new fiscal year. Adopting Proposed Budget Postponed
The Commissioners Court on Tuesday postponed adopting the budget and thus the tax rate for next year. Questions over the use of certain restricted funds will be answered by Assistant County Attorney Denise Gremillion to help the Court determine how much the county has in reserves for next year. County Judge Dean Crooks added that the four Commissioners were unable to attend the public hearing on the budget Monday evening and would like some time to review the revised budget prepared by County Auditor Pennee Schmitt. The WO-S High School Homecoming Parade is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. Organizations interested in participating in the parade should contact Caleb Henson at the High School at cahe@woccisd.net or at 409-882-5570. Vehicles pulling floats, flatbeds, and decorated automobiles will be the only type of vehicles allowed to participate.
