The Sabine River Authority awarded a Community Assistance Program Grant December 19 as part of SRA's Fiscal Year 2019 Economic Development Initiative. The $14,000 check will be used to assist Orange County to install a second row of culverts along FM1442 near the entrance to the Entergy Power Plant in Bridge City. Accident Sends Teens To Hospital
Two teenage boys were injured early Tuesday morning after a pickup truck went airborne at the Womack Road railroad tracks and then flipped over upside down. The truck ended up traveling up the cement side of the Interstate 10 overpass where it stopped. The 17-year-old and 18-year-old were taken by Acadian Ambulance Service to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Orange police report the crash was at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday on Lutcher Drive, the Interstate 10 access road, at Womack Road. On Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at approximately 6:36 PM, the Vidor Police Department received a call from the Walmart Super Store in the 1300 Block of N. Main Street in reference to a shop lifting in progress. The caller advised that 2 females were inside the store shoplifting. The suspects attempted to walk out of the store with $112.36 worth of make-up, and beauty accessories. Burton, Crump Serve In Final Meeting
Tuesday was the final Commissioners Court meeting of the year. It was also the final meeting for Commissioners Barry Burton and Jody Crump. Both were defeated in the Republican Primary earlier this year. Burton and Crump expressed appreciation to their constituents for allowing them the opportunity to serve the county. They also thanked the other members of the Court for working together to make Orange County a better place. The opening game of district saw the state-ranked East Chambers Buccaneers jump out to a big lead. The Orangefield Bobcats rallied in the second half to make game of it, but East Chambers prevailed 60-50 at the Bobcats Gym on Tuesday night. The Buccaneers scored the first seven points of the game and led by 10 after the first quarter. The Bobcats played it closer in the second quarter thanks to six points from Valentin Catt. Filing Dates Set For May 4 Election
Cities and school boards have already begun the process of calling elections for May 4 and candidates will begin filing to run in January. The Texas Secretary of State has set filings to begin Wednesday, January 16, and end at 5 p.m. Friday, February 15. Locally, fillings are made during business hours on regular business days. The last day to register to vote for the May 4 election will be April 4. Early voting in person will begin Monday, April 22, and end on April 30. OC Sales Tax Numbers For October
Sales tax returns in Orange County from October are showing a slight drop from October in 2017 as Hurricane Harvey repairs begin to slow down. However, entities are still seeing increases for the first 10 months of 2018 compared to the same time period last year. The Texas Comptroller's Office has sent October payments to cities, the county, and the Orange County Emergency Services District No. 3, which is the Little Cypress Fire and Rescue.
