Deweyville Beats Kelly
The Deweyville Pirates edged out the Kelly Bulldogs Friday night 24-21 with a strong performance from Lance Wilhelm. Wilhelm gained 286 yards on 28 carries with 2 TD's. One TD was a 71 yd. run with other TD being a 70 yd. run. Gavin Buxton scored the first TD on pass reception from Keevin Gordon from 31 yards out. The Pirates totaled 391 yards on the night and 336 on the ground and 55 through the air. Green Retires From Pinehurst
The City of Pinehurst said farewell to a faithful employee Friday as Bryan Green retired as the city’s Water Department Director. Green has over 25 years in municipal service the last 17 with the City of Pinehurst. City Administrator Robbie Hood stated he will miss Green with his excellent knowledge and work ethic as the director of the water department. Green was presented a Citizen wrist watch by Pinehurst. Two Vehicles On Fire After Wreck
At approximately 6:15a.m. Friday, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Orange near the 16th Street intersection. The crash occurred near mile marker 877. Preliminary reports indicate that a Toyota Camry and a Kenwood truck tractor semi-trailer were traveling westbound on Interstate 10 followed by a Chevrolet Trailblazer. The driver of the Toyota and the driver of the 18-wheeler slowed, due to traffic congestion, when both vehicles were rear-ended by the Chevrolet. Orange To Vote On Mitigation Projects
Orange has prepared projects eligible for federal grants to help in preventing future flooding. The plans include a $10 million "Hurricane Protection System" along the west bank of the Sabine River from Interstate 10 to Front Street. The Orange City Council will vote Tuesday to add the projects to its Hazard Mitigation Action Plan. Emergency Management Coordinator Lee Anne Brown said in a memo projects must be in the city's action plan before submission for grants. WOS Faces Undefeated Dogs
Another win was registered for West Orange-Stark last week. The Mustangs took a 21-0 lead into halftime and that was the final score. Despite the victory Coach Cornel Thompson was disappointed in the overall game effort exhibited by the Mustangs. Thompson observed, “We come out the second half, and I believe some of them stayed in the fieldhouse I don’t believe they come out that second half.” The loss of one player because of injury in the game bothered the coach.
