Kelvin Knauf is the interim city manager for the Orange beginning Wednesday. The Orange City Council Tuesday named Knauf as the interim to replace Dr. Shawn Oubre, who has resigned for a similar job in Woodway, Texas. Knauf has been Orange's planning and community development director for nearly four years. He has a master's degree in public administration from the University of Kansas and 37 years of experience in municipal government. Kids Put Thingamajig In Rigamajig
Kids at the Girls and Boys Club of Orange hopped and sang with pent-up energy after school Tuesday. But a new "toy" got them quiet with concentration. They didn't realize they were learning engineering skills and teamwork. The Salvation Army of Orange had a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new Rigamajig system designed for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) skills. Pinehurst CC Holds Meeting
The City of Pinehurst will keep their city secretary. The City Council met Tuesday and held the annual evaluation of City Secretary Debbie Cormier in a closed session. When the council reconvened in open session it was quite clear that the work of Cormier was very much appreciated by everyone as she was complemented by council members. Cormier thanked all the members of the City Council for their confidence in her, and said she looked forward to many more years with Pinehurst as long as the city would have her. WO Approves Mitigation Plan
The City of West Orange approved its comprehensive Mitigation Action Plan during a meeting of the City Council on Monday. The plan includes ten action items the city is considering requesting grant money to pay for completing. Mayor Roy McDonald said the Mitigation Action Plan is required for the city to receive any grants. “If you apply for a grant you’re not going to get it if you don’t already have a plan showing exactly what you plan to do with that money,” McDonald explained. County Discusses Restricted Funds
Restricted funds for the county will stay in the same account with general funds after a workshop Tuesday on the restructuring of restricted funds. Three members of the Commissioners Court met with County Auditor Pennee Schmitt, County Treasurer Christy Khoury, and Assistant County Attorney Denise Gremillion to discuss options for securing restricted funds from being used inappropriately. Longtime Orange City Judge Jerry Pennington and city prosecutor Cimron Campbell will continue in their jobs without having to reapply. The Orange City Council Tuesday voted not to seek proposals from other lawyers to fill the positions. However, District 4 Councilor Annette Pernell was not happy.
