The City of Orange Economic Development Corporation has a new board member, Demetrius Moffett. The Orange City Council Tuesday appointed Moffett to the seat previously held by Dean Granger. Granger, who has been president of the board for the past year, completed his term limits on the board. He had served four two-year terms. The council re-appointed Gail Barnett to the board along with Mayor Larry Spears Jr. and Councilors Terrie Salter and Bill Mello. “Coastal Spine” Project Receives Support
U.S. Senator John Cornyn Wednesday announced that the final Congressional action has been made for the "coastal spine" project to protect against flooding along the Gulf Coast of Texas. The project is to include about 27 miles of levees and seawalls along the southern part of Orange County at an estimated cost of $1.93 billion. Cornyn in February secured nearly $4 billion for the spine, including the Orange County section, improvements to the levee system in Port Arthur, and protection in Freeport. County Taking Bids On Face Lift
Orange County will be seeking bids for repairs to the marble façade on the front of the Courthouse. The Commissioners Court Wednesday approved Purchasing Agent Connie Cassidy to advertise for proposals to repair the marble that has come loose from the building structure. Maintenance Director Kurt Guidry spoke Tuesday with architect Dohn LaBiche who sent a letter in September to County Judge Dean Crooks on his recommendations for the needed repairs. Orange is one of the oldest Anglo settlements in Texas and the Heritage House Museum is sharing parts of the city's history on Saturday evening with the third annual Historic Ghost Walk. The last two weeks Coach Randy Crouch said he has seen an improvement in the attitude of the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears.
