Helen Louise Hayden, age 92 of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Monday, October 1, 2018. She was born August 22, 1926 in Amarillo, Texas to parents L.B. Hayden and Bernice Hayden. Miss Hayden’s family relocated to Orange, TX in the early 1940’s. Their residence for many years was at #2 Circle C in Orange, TX. After 30+ years of service, Helen retired from Dupont in Orange. Arrest Made In DG Robbery
The Orange County Sheriff's Dept. has made an arrest in the robbery of the Dollar General Store on FM 1442 just south of I-10. Twenty-one year old William Webb of Orange was arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery after shooting out the glass of the front door of the store and entering right after it closed on Thursday. According to video, Webb left without taking anything. The employees saw him come in and locked themselves in the office. After the third quarter of the BC/LCM game Friday, Cardinal PA Announcer Terry Steubing called the crowds attention to the field as they welcomed and honored Alexus Henry. Henry, a two time state champion in the high jump at Bridge City, recently won gold in the NCAA Championships in the high jump. She's the first female athlete at University of Texas at Arlington to win a national title. She also holds the school record for the high jump, pentathlon and hepthathlon. Sales Tax Numbers For August
Sales tax returns to local entities are continuing to increase a year after Harvey. The Texas Comptroller's Office has sent August sales tax shares to the cities, county and special districts. The month included back-to-school sales, including the tax-free weekend. Money earned by local entities: Bridge City (1.5 percent tax): $130,000 for the month and $1.5 million for the year to date, a 27.84 percent increase.
