Louvenia Miller Hryhorchuk was born in Lake Arthur, Louisiana on August 14th, 1933. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mabel Ryder Miller and Andrew Miller; In addition to brothers, Thomas Joseph “Jay” Miller and Ernest Miller. Louvenia was baptized at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church on October 3, 1933 in Lake Arthur and made her First Holy Communion on May 18, 1944 in Sulphur, Louisiana. She lived in Lake Arthur until nine years old. Cajun French was the only language she spoke until she started school. Three Bobcats Qualify For State
Three Orangefield Bobcats will be running their way to Round Rock for the State Cross Country Meet. Monday junior Maddison Helm finished second in the 3A Region Meet held in Huntsville with a time of 12:18. Her sister, freshman Katelynn Helm was sixth with a time of 12:37. Payton Wrinkle was one of two freshmen to qualify for State. He finished 16th with a time of 18:04. The top ten boys who didn't qualify with their team advance to State. On Friday evening the Little Cypress-Mauriceville District honored four Distinguished Alumni and a Hall of Fame husband-wife team. These LCM graduates and patrons were selected by an anonymous District committee. University of the Incarnate Word sophomore cornerback Malick Phillips was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced the league office Monday. This is the first such award of Phillips' career. "Malick was a huge part of a great team win on Saturday night," said UIW Head Coach Eric Morris. Mauriceville Man Facing Multiple Charges
Vidor police said a Mauriceville man is in the county jail facing charges of aggravated assault and possession of methamphetamine after firing a gun outside a vehicle. Police found his wife and five children cowered in the vehicle. The incident was reported about 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Vidor police were called to the 2300 block of Highway 12. The man was located nearby and was pointing a small pink handgun to his head. Police talked him into dropping it. The Orange County District Attorney's Office is holding a walk at noon Thursday to draw attention to the problem of domestic violence. October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month to focus on the problem and to let victims know that someone will listen to them.
