Assistant District Attorney Krispen Walker organized a walk Thursday to mark National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Orange County Sheriff's Office ran a warrant round-up on people wanted for domestic assault. Sheriff's Investigator Janois Grizzaffi said five people were arrested with a total of 19 charges against them, most for assault or family violence. Early Votes Surpass 10K
Orange County on Thursday surpassed 10,000 early votes, even though the voting slowed. The county now has a total of 10,354 votes cast for the November 6 general election with seven more days of early voting. The county early voting will continue Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Next week, voting at the four sites will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Tuesday, which has extended hours of 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Thursday, the county added a total of 1,589 votes, with 1,510 in person and 79 by mail. Sheriffs Office Not Asking For Money
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office wants to warn the public about scammers allegedly posing as sheriff’s officers and asking victims for money over the phone. The agency has received several reports of a male subject, claiming to be Sheriffs Detective Paul Norris, asking for money to prevent them from having criminal charges filed against them. In a similar scam, victims are asked to send or wire money in order to bond a family member out of jail. Mustangs Ready To Work After Open Week
After the celebration and congratulations for the school’s four hundredth victory, the West Orange-Stark Mustangs had their bye. Coach Cornel Thompson reviewed the injury list and what the Mustangs did during the open week. Injuries from the historic game two weeks ago were minor and have healed over with the bye. Two Arrested After Gambling Raid
Orange police Tuesday night arrested two men in connection with suspected illegal gambling with eight-liner games at three convenience stores. Police had search warrants and, with Orange County Sheriff's Office deputies, raided the stores at 6:30 p.m. The stores were at 3118 Edgar Brown Drive across from Wal-Mart, along with 1402 and 1415 16th Street, the same block was Walgreen's. Police Detective Captain Robert Enmon said Milkha Singh was arrested for organized criminal activity gambling. Orange Thanks Pinehurst, West Orange
The Orange City Council bought a new grapple truck Tuesday as part of the effort to clean the city. The truck cost nearly $200,000 and the council previously decided to include it in the new budget, which started October 1. Public Works Director Jim Wolf said the Peterbilt chassis truck will have a bed to hold 30 cubic feet. The two grapple trucks the city currently owns hold 24 cubic feet. Mayor Larry Spears Jr. gave credit to District 1 Councilor Pat Pullen for the idea of an extra grapple truck to clean up large amounts of discarded trash.
