Peveto Fourth, Helm Fifth At State CC
LCM's Eli Peveto finished fourth in the 4A State Cross Country Meet Saturday in Round Rock with a time of 15:43. Judson Greer of Melissa won with a time 15:02. Orangefield junior Maddison Helm was fifth in the girls 3A division with a time of 12:06. Jenna Brazeal of Little River Academy won with a time of 11:45. Sister Katelyn Helm, a freshman, was 38th at 12:48. Orangefield freshman Peyton Wrinkle was 71st with a time of 17:43. The winning time was 15:29. William Glenn McMillon, 72, of Orange, Texas, passed away on October 31, 2018, in Port Arthur. Born in Orange, Texas, on November 4, 1945, he was the son of Jesse and Ima McMillon. William proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He went on to work as an electrician for many years and retired from DuPont. William was a wonderful father and husband. It was a "bend don't break" performance for the West Orange-Stark defense as the Mustangs held off Liberty 33-24 on Senior Night at Dan Hooks Stadium. Tied at three in the first half, the Mustangs forced a fumble that was recovered by senior Renaldo Rose. Jamarcus Ross scored two plays later. Angel Ibarra's kick made it 10-3. The Bridge City Cardinals claimed a district victory on senior night with a 28-7 win against the Livingston Lions on Friday night at Larry B. Ward Stadium in Bridge City. The Cardinals struck first with a 51-yard drive on its second possession of the game and only needed 50 seconds of the clock as freshman Ethan Oceguera scorched the Lions defense on a 26-yard jaunt to the end zone and a 7-0 lead following the extra point by Oscar Carranza. With seniors playing their last game on their home field, Orangefield had a big 56-0 win over Warren. The Bobcats immediately jumped on Warren in the first quarter. After Chase Broussard brought the ball to the Warrior’s 28 yard line the Bobcats completed several handoffs to senior Blake Bradley, who eventually found his way into the end zone. Friday night the Deweyville Pirates hosted San Augustine Wolves for Senior Night. The Pirates came up short on the scoreboard but played their hearts out all night. The final ended 38-6. Keevin Gordon was the leading the rusher for the Pirates with 54 yards on 17 carries and one TD. Gordon was 3 for 10 passing and 3 interceptions. First Quarter Dooms Bears
Friday night it was a battle with seeding ramifications and even a lead in to a possible district championship game for Little Cypress-Mauriceville next week. The playoffs are still a good possibility, but the district championship took wings and flew away at Falcon Stadium. The Bears lost to the Huffman Hargrave Falcons 26-12. Huffman (4-5, 2-2) used its passing game to score early and then a solid running game late to secure the victory. Two Arrested For Meth
Orange narcotics officers reported finding methamphetamine after stopping a car for a traffic violation on Strickland Drive about noon Thursday. 26-year-old Jessica Crawford Wyatt (right) of Bridge City, who was driving the car, and 26-year-old Brittany Weise of Orange were arrested for possession of a controlled substance. They face a state jail felony charge. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said a purse in the front seat had a syringe with what is believed to be a liquid meth inside.
