Republicans once again swept Orange County with half the voters casting straight tickets for the party. A total of 29,695 people voted in the election, with 14,873 filling in the straight Republican circle. Also, voters in the West Orange-Cove school district agreed to a $25.75 million bond issue for a variety of improvements across the campuses. Longlois Inducted Into Honor Society
Jessica Longlois of Orange was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Longlois is pursuing a degree in Music Education at Lamar University. Longlois is among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Commissioners Approve Getting Loan
Another step was taken Tuesday by the Commissioners Court to borrow eight million dollars for the county. The Court approved authorizing the issuance of the $8 million in tax anticipation notes series 2018 through Wells Fargo Bank. The loan will be used to cover expenses for the county over the next two months to the beginning of the next calendar year. Treasurer Christy Khoury said county reserves are about $5.5 million including restricted funds. BC Ends Season With Splendora
The first win in district was earned last week by Bridge City. The Cardinals got a strong performance from Rylan Ply who rushed for 167 yards in just the first three quarters. His replacement freshman Ethan Oceguera picked up another 91 yards and scored a touchdown. Ply is questionable for this week’s game according to Coach Allen DeShazo. Getting Ply back is big for Bridge City because he plays on both sides, offense and defense for the Cardinals. Two Women Hospitalized After Accident
Two women had to be taken by ambulance to a Beaumont hospital after a three-vehicle collision Monday evening on Highway 87 North at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Orange police report a 2010 Honda Civic driven by a 16-year-old hit another sedan after attempting a left turn from the highway onto MLK. The traffic light did not have a green light for a protected left turn, police said. According to the accident report, the Honda was traveling north on Highway 87. Three Bobcats Make All-Region Choir
The Orangefield High School choir students recently competed in rounds 1 and 2 of the All Region Choir competition. Thirteen students competed and 3 made the choir. Congratulations to Tyler Bailey, Lauren Williams, and Hunter Beard for qualifying for the mixed choir. The concert will be tonight at 7 p.m. at the Julie Rogers Theater and is open to the public.
