Commercial development and industrial improvements are being planned for Orange. The Orange City Council and city Economic Development Corporation are ready to give a grant of $350,000 for the commercial development at the vacant block on 16th Street at Interstate 10. Plus, International Paper is preparing to spend at least $50 million of improvements. The company is asking the City Council to recommend the mill to be a Texas Enterprise Zone Project. West Orange-Stark won another tight one last week with Liberty. The Mustangs clinched at least a share of the district championship. The final game of the regular season is this Friday, and Coach Cornel Thompson should have a full corral of Mustangs to use to close out the district undefeated. This is Week 11 of the high school football season and for Orangefield the last one of the year. Coach Josh Smalley should be getting some Bobcats back for the final game. Colby Gonzales sat out last week with a concussion should be available on Friday. Fullback Quy Tsan tried to give it a go against Warren with an ankle injury, but will be available for this game. Nancy Marie Mitchell
Nancy Marie Mitchell was born on December 15, 1940 to Percy and Lucy Mitchell in Orange, TX. She was the seventh of twelve children. She was raised in a Christian home and grew to love the Lord at an early age, and was a lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church. Nancy graduated from Wallace High School in 1959, she married Franklin R. Thompson Sr. shortly afterwards. She was known for her wonderful cooking and her culinary gift landed her work at The Capistrano restaurant and in later years at West Orange-Stark school district until retirement. Bears Battle Raiders Friday
The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears lost a hard fought game to Huffman last week, but are still going to the playoffs. Coach Randy Crouch is proud of the effort shown by the Bears and hopes it continues this week. After falling behind early, LC-M did not allow any points to Huffman in the second half and outscored the Falcons in the last two quarters. The coach thinks the Bears can build on that. Williams Gets Life for Murder
A jury Wednesday afternoon decided a 29-year-old man should serve life in prison for beating his domestic partner to death last year. The jury earlier had found Jerry Chargois Williams guilty of murdering 28-year-old Stormy Leeann Williams. The couple had three young children. Stormy Williams died at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas the day after she had been found unconscious and barely breathing at their residence, No. 2 East Sunset Drive at Pacific Street.
