Another district championship was earned by the West Orange-Stark Mustangs with their victory over the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns last week. Coach Cornel Thompson believes the Mustangs played pretty good in the district finale which clinched the championship and kept them undefeated in the district. The win was number 403 for West Orange-Stark in the school’s history. Thompson was pleased to have a few Mustangs back from injuries. Kayla Nichols, Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School soccer standout, signed today to play with East Texas Baptist University in Marshall when she begins her college career in the fall of 2019. Her academic studies will be geared toward a degree in nursing upon graduation. The Astros Foundation awarded a grant in the amount of $63,115.00 to Orangefield Elementary and Orangefield High School Libraries. Fire Dept. Not Happy With Agreement
Two City Council meetings were held Tuesday with discussions on combining their fire departments, but the two sessions were very different. Officials from West Orange and Pinehurst met previously to work out an interlocal agreement to combine the volunteer fire departments from the cities under one chief. Pinehurst Approves Tax Abatement Policy
The City of Pinehurst is interested in economic development. The City Council approved a new tax abatement policy Tuesday during its meeting. City Administrator Robbie Hood explained the process for updating the abatement policy. For a taxing entity to provide an abatement it first must have a policy in place. The Pinehurst City Council adopted the same policy adopted by Orange County a few weeks ago.
