Rattlers End Bears Season
You've heard coaches use the cliche that "the game is won in the trenches." That could've been used Friday as the Navasota Rattlers controlled the line of scrimmage and ended the LCM Bears season with a 38-7 loss in Huffman in the 4A DI Bidistrict round. The Bears (4-7) could only muster 151 yards of offense while the Rattlers put up 461 yards with 280 of that coming from the ground game. Sales Tax Numbers Strong In County
Consumer sales remain strong across Orange County based on the September payments to local entities. The cities, county, and one special district show increases for the year to date, compared to the same time last year. The Texas Comptroller's Office has sent these payments: Bridge City (1.5 percent tax): $173,900 for the month and $1.83 million for the year to date, a 25.43 percent increase from last year. Orange (1.5 percent tax): $496,674 for the month and $4.98 million for the year to date, a 19.79 percent increase from last year. Nineteen University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football players claimed spots on the American Southwest Conference All-Conference team. That included K.J. Miller, a sophomore slot back/kick returner from West Orange Stark High School, leads UMHB with 34 catches for 456 yards and two touchdowns and he has also returned three punts for touchdowns on the season. KOGT has uncovered the secret of LCM quarterback Adam Pope having the "hot hand" lately. Last week on a chilly Friday, Pope was using a Chick-Fil-A bag to keep his hands warm. He picked a part the Lumberton defense with an 18-0 win. LCM Trainer Sherry Hoffpauir said the bag came in handy after Chick-Fil-A left the bag and has yet to pick it up. The Bears used the bag to keep the footballs warm and the homecoming king followed suit. Bad Dog
An Orange police officer used his Taser shock gun Wednesday afternoon to try to subdue a loose dog that was charging at people. The officer reported the dog's elderly owner said the dog had bit people before and she could not control him. She turned the dog over to the city animal control officer. The incident began about 3:15 p.m. when the dog of "an unknown breed" tried to attack a mail carrier in the 1200 block of Cherry Avenue.
