House Raising Workshop
The City of Orange is having a workshop for residents who are interested in getting grants to raise the level of the houses. The workshop is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20 at the Lamar State College-Orange Student Center on Green Avenue. Interim City Manager Kelvin Knauf told the city council last week representatives from businesses that raise houses will attend to answer questions. Belton Rudy Barbin, 85, of Orange, Texas, passed away on November 18, 2018, at his home. Born in Marksville, Louisiana, on October 4, 1933, he was the son of Eugene Hunt and Una Mary Hunt. Winter Months Cool Construction Permits
Construction and remodeling has finally slowed in the city of Orange after Tropical Storm Harvey. Only four residential remodelings were filed and the largest permit was for the one new house being built. The new house is valued at $208,000 and is being built in the Cypresswood subdivision off Highway 87 South. The most valuable industrial-commercial project was for $125,975 for a new roof at the Akrotex building, 4000 Tulane Drive. Temp Housing Ending In WO
Temporary housing is being eliminated in West Orange. Almost 15 months since Tropical Storm Harvey hit the city temporary housing provided by FEMA and the General Land Office is nearing an end in West Orange. The City Council has voted to deny an extension for the permits of temporary housing in the city. City Code Enforcement Officer Dean Fuller informed there are only three families in West Orange still residing in the FEMA trailers. Fuller added that from what he could observe those families were making no effort to repair their previous homes damaged in the flooding from Harvey.
