Orange Crush Gold (Harrell) played in the Spring Klein College Exposure this past weekend finishing 3rd going 5-1. The team outscored its opponents 43 – 8 in the six games. Great effort from all the girls with Renna Toomey having a special weekend going 10 for 14 with 7 home runs. Hitting the cycle in Homeruns on Saturday with a solo, 2 run, 3 run and a grand slam. Then added 3 more home runs on Sunday. Bill Hymes, 90, of Orange, TX died Thursday, November 22nd, 2018 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, TX. A native of Beaumont he was a longtime resident of Orange. Bill served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a supervisor at Sabine River Works for years and loved to work in his yard. Bill could fix anything and was known as an all around handyman. Ladies “Thankful” To Be Back In Home
Lillie Jolivette and Peggy Williams are thankful for the the giving of others. Almost 15 months after Tropical Storm Harvey flooded their houses, the next door neighbors are back on Cooper Drive in Orange. On Wednesday, they were surprised by donations to help them get back into daily living at home. Orange City Councilor Terrie Salter arranged for local agencies to donate food, small appliances, plates, eating utensils, bedding, food, and cash for the families. Another Skimmer Found In Orange
As travel increased for the Thanksgiving holiday, a credit card skimmer was found on a gas pump at a store off Interstate 10 at Higway 62. Orange police went to the Circle K Valero, 7253 Interstate 10, Tuesday night. An officer reported an employee found the skimmer and removed it. Police took the skimmer as evidence. Thieves place the skimmers on gasoline pumps or vending machines that use credit and debit cards. When a card is used, the skimmer sends the card numbers and PINs to the thieves, who can then make unauthorized charges. Lions Carnival Survives Tough Year
The Lions Club battled the rainy weather for three months. The Lions were able to conduct the annual carnival in Orange in the middle of November instead of the normal September dates. Homes On Slabs Can Be Elevated
Large houses on concrete slabs can be lifted several feet to avoid future flooding. The city of Orange Tuesday held a workshop for people to learn about elevating houses using federal emergency recovery grants. Four companies from Texas and Louisiana had representatives with photographs or videos of houses being lifted. Some companies were offering free estimates for elevations. The city's grant consultant, Greg Wobbe, said the elevation grants can come from either FEMA or the Texas General Land Office, called GLO. Both agencies are using federal money for the grants.
