Orange police are sending a human skull and lower jaw bone to a specialized forensic lab in Dallas to get more information on the bones found Saturday morning off Interstate 10. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the testing should determine the sex, age and any other identifiable information. "It appears to have been out in the woods for some time," he said about the skull. A man working a bulldozer in the woods near a long-abandoned and shuttered business saw the skull on top of the ground, Enmon said. The skull was reported to Orange police about 11 a.m. Saturday. Book Signing Scheduled For Jan. 27
The Stark Museum of Art is hosting a reception and book signing for the new exhibit Long Shadow: The Lutcher-Stark Lumber Dynasty, Saturday January 27 from 1:00-4:00 pm. The exhibition features historic photographs and documents from the Eunice R. Benckenstein Library & Archive. “The exhibit grew out of the recent publication of the same name,” said Jenniffer Hudson Connors, Manager of the Library & Archive. Suspect Steals DPS Vehicle
Early Sunday morning an alleged intoxicated driver was arrested by a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Trooper. The suspect later fled from the scene in the patrol vehicle, crashing a short time later, and was taken in custody by law enforcement. At approximately 1:30 a.m., a DPS Trooper stopped Eric Parker, 28, of Denton, on I-10 in Orange County, and determined Parker was intoxicated. Human Remains Found Off I-10
On January 06, 2018, at 11:07 A.M., officers were dispatched to the area of 3800 Block IH-10 South Service Road, in reference to suspicious activity. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a subject who found what appeared to be human remains. Officers verified the remains were human, and secured the scene. Orange Police Department Detectives were called to the scene and an investigation was begun. The investigation is ongoing at this time. Ike Lafitte II, 57, of Orange, died Wednesday, January 3, 2018. He was born on February 9, 1960, to Shirley Dell Dudley Lafitte and Louis Jean Lafitte, in Beaumont. Ike worked as a training coordinator for Exxon Mobil. Two Arrested With Stolen Property
Bridge City Police received a call Thursday of two black males leaving the Silver Fox bar on Texas Ave. after breaking into a vehicle by smashing the window. A description of the vehicle the suspects left in was given to officers. Captain Robert Bergeron and Detective Joiner saw the vehicle heading to Orange on Hwy. 87 and pulled the vehicle over. District play started Friday night in 22-4A for girls’ basketball. The Orangefield Lady Bobcats came away with an important road victory in the opener 42-37 against the Lady Cardinals at Bridge City. It was a slow start for the Lady Bobcats who trailed after one quarter. Coach Jennifer Willis yelled some encouragement to sophomore Faith Fregia to shoot the ball, and Fregia obeyed her coach and did so after that.
