Orange Patrol Officer N.R. Medina made arrests in three drug cases during the weekend. One of the men arrested was stopped near where business burglaries have been reported and he had guns and a bolt cutter in the pickup. In that case, Medina reported he was making extra patrols looking for possible break-ins. At 11:47 p.m. Saturday, he reported seeing a tan 2000 Ford pickup truck traveling slowly on 14th Street and making stops. The father of a toddler learned a lesson about keeping locks above the reach of children. The little girl was found Friday afternoon walking off Highway 87 onto Robin Street in the Greenway Park neighborhood. After trying unsuccessfully for two hours to find the parents, police called Child Protective Services, who picked up the girl. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the father had worked the nightshift and fallen asleep. The little girl managed to unlock the deadbolt and walked out. A man who put a "powerful firecracker" in a piece of PVC pipe had an "unexpected result" that scared residents in the Old Orange Historic District Friday night, said Detective Captain Robert Enmon. People living in a two to three block radius were jolted by the explosion about 8:15 p.m. The explosion was in a yard on Seventh Street near Cypress Avenue. James Weldon Passmore, 70, of Athens, Texas went to be with his heavenly father on January 6, 2018. He was born July 9, 1947 in Beaumont, Texas to J.W. Passmore and Ruby Passmore In 1966 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and then was transferred to the Marines as a Corpsman. He served in Viet Nam until 1970 when he was honorably discharged.
