One Car Accident Claims One
Jeremy Michael Martinez, 37, of Nederland, was killed about 5am Wednesday morning in a one-car crash on Interstate 10 westbound in Vidor. A 42-year-old Beaumont woman who was a passenger in the car, Carla Culver, was seriously injured. Sergeant Stephanie Davis with the Texas Department of Transportation said a Pontiac passenger car was in the westbound outside lane in the area past Main Street. Retired teacher Bettie J. Curtis will be honored Saturday night with the Legends Award at the Second Annual Blossoming Minds MLK Gala at the Orange County Expo Center. Beaumont dentist Dr. Sam Showalter shared memories of his recent cruise with the Lindblad-National Geographic Expeditions to the Antarctica Peninsula. Showalter loves traveling and photography. Court Announces Reopening of Park
The Commissioners Court took no action Tuesday in appointing a member to the new Long-Term Disaster Recovery Board. Thursday night, however, there will be a meeting at the Orange County Convention and Expo Center to create a new Long-term Disaster Recovery Board for the county. County Judge Brint Carlton explained that the previous Long-term Disaster Recovery Board was created after the flooding of the Sabine River in March of 2016. Local Man Dies After Accident In Jeff County
46-year-old Dayton Wesley Greer of Bridge City was killed on Highway 69 in Beaumont Monday after he was hit by a pickup truck. Beaumont police are trying to determine whether he was attempting to cross the highway or was walking along the inside lane. The accident was reported about 4 p.m. Monday south of Twin City Highway. Granger Selected President of EDC
Dean Granger was elected Tuesday to be president of the City of Orange Economic Development board of directors. The appointed EDC board met for the first time with two new members and selected officers. Besides Granger, other officers are Larry Spears Jr., vice president; Gail Barnett, secretary; and Michael Smith, treasurer. Spears is one of three city council members on the EDC board. Accident Sends One To Jail
A Lincoln MKZ went off the roadway of DuPont Drive and crashed into a tree and parked Camaro, which then hit the front porch of a house early Tuesday. Orange police arrested a man in the Lincoln for possession of a controlled substance after finding a baggie of what was believed to be cocaine on top of a shed at the house.
