Long Term Recovery Meeting Held Thursday
About 150 people attended a meeting at the Orange County Convention and Expo Center Thursday night to help organize a Long-Term Disaster Recovery Board. A similar organization was created following the flooding of the Sabine and Neches Rivers in March of 2016. That board lasted only about a year. The county’s Special Projects Coordinator Michelle Tubbleville (right) is optimistic the new Long-Term Disaster Recovery Board will be successful and longer lasting this time. The Field of Plenty Donation Community Garden has a public garden with vegetables available to be picked. The Field of Plenty is located at 2120 Wickard which is behind Orange Christian Services located on W. Park Street. The public garden, directly behind the Field of Plenty, is on Bruce Lane. There are turnip greens, mustard greens, and collard greens. William Richard Allen, 67, of Orange, Texas, passed away on January 10, 2018, in Houston, Texas. Born in Connersville, Indiana, on May 14, 1950, he was the son of William Richard Allen, Sr. and Eva Kenmuir Allen. William will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Laura Bush Foundation Announces Grants
Five Orange County schools will be getting grants from the Laura Bush Foundation to America's Libraries to help replace books lost to the Tropical Storm Harvey flood. The foundation will be giving a total of $850,000 to 17 schools affected by Harvey. The individual grants will range from $1,500 to $70,000. Bullet Holes Found In Apartment
Orange police found two small bullet holes in an apartment where a sleeping man was awakened by a crashing sound before dawn Thursday. Police went to the complex at 4030 Sikes Road off Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at 8 a.m. The 43-year-old man told an officer he was woke up because of the noise which was between 5:30 and 6:30 that morning. He did not see any broken at first, but called police after seeing two small holes. Parade Set For Monday
Monday is the national and state holiday for Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, however only some local government offices and school districts will be closed. The Orange County Courthouse and county offices will be closed, along with city offices in Orange and Vidor. City halls in West Orange, Pinehurst and Bridge City will be open. The West Orange-Cove CISD will be closed with teachers, staff and students getting a holiday. Bridge City ISD will not have classes for students, but teachers and staff will have a work day. Two Found Passed Out In Truck
Orange police Wednesday morning investigated two people passed out in a pickup truck on a street in a residential neighborhood. The 25-year-old Bridge City man in the truck had passed out with a glass pipe used to smoke drugs in his lap. The 24-year-old woman was so intoxicated police called an ambulance to get her medical help. Police said they went to the Rosewood Drive at Echo Road at 9 a.m. District Attorney Investigator K.C. Shahan Retiring From LSCO
