Extended Payments Offered For Harvey Victims
Homeowners with damage from Tropical Storm Harvey will be able to pay their local property taxes, due on January 31, in four payments this year. The Orange County Tax Assessor-Collectors office said the taxpayer must sign an affidavit they had damage on their homestead property. The payment system will not be used for other types of properties without registered homestead exemption. Governor Greg Abbott signed the order allowing the one-time offer for the extended payments. OPD Reports On Two Acccidents
A 45-year-old woman was taken to a Port Arthur hospital Monday morning after an SUV that ran a stop sign hit the SUV she was driving. Orange police reported Tarsha Renee Carter of Orange had non-incapacitating injuries in the collision that happpened about 9 Monday morning at the intersection of Burton Avenue and 14th Street. She was taken by Acadian Ambulance to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas. Police said Carter was driving a Ford Focus westbound on Burton. The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce held it's 58th Annual Chamber Banquet, also known as the "Taste of the Bayou." The Chamber recognized three entities as "Business of the Year." Sheriffs Office Warns Of Scam
The Orange County Sheriff's Office wants to prevent citizens from being victims of an apparent scam that has recently occurred. Sheriff Keith Merritt said several citizens have called in the past hour reporting they received a call from someone stating they were a deputy with the Orange County Sheriff's Office and were asked to send money to prevent being arrested for failing to appear for jury duty. The caller is asking for a credit card number or for prepaid money cards to be purchased and those card numbers be given to the caller.
