North Texas sophomore and LCM grad Lauren Cox made a hole in one at the Lantana Golf Club in the DFW area. Cox was playing for a spot on her travel team when she aced the 15th hole from 145 yds out. She hit her shot and picked up her tee. Her assistant coach, Kendra Little was watching and said “That looks pretty good - go into the hole”. Lauren looked up to see her ball hit the green and roll into the hole. She ended her round with a 69 and bought Gatorade for her team to celebrate. Mixed Doubles Bring Home Gold
Orangefield began their tennis season with a great showing from mixed doubles’ team, Christie Luong and Luke Truncale at the South Park varsity tournament. The pair advanced to the finals after wins over Kountze and Bridge City. It took a super tiebreaker to defeat Nederland in the final match. After a 5-7 loss, Luong and Truncale won the second set 6-4. They went on to win the tiebreaker 10-4. Girls’ singles also experienced some success. The Democratic candidate for Orange County Judge said he will be working to November to win the position as the top administrator for the county. Donald Glenn Brown stated Friday the announcement on Thursday by Michael Cole the secretary for the Orange County Democratic Party concerning Brown’s name being removed from the November ballot was not authorized. Manning Retires From County
Two decades of service ended Friday at the Orange County Courthouse. Assistant County Attorney Doug Manning retired after 20 years in the District Attorney’s office. Along with his other duties in the County Attorney’s office Manning has served as the legal counsel for the Commissioners Court and all the elected officials in the county for the bulk of his time at the courthouse. Doug shared he plans to do some crappie fishing for a couple weeks with his dad which he has been promising to do for too long. Bridge City ISD Superintendent Todd Lintzen announced today the district will not need to make up the two snow days of January 16 and 17. He said state law requires students to have a minimum of 75,600 minutes of instruction during every school year. Orange Woman Arrested For Drugs In Vidor
A woman who displayed a pistol in a vehicle Thursday night in Vidor was arrested and now faces two felony charges of possession of a controlled substance. Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll said a complaint came at 7:37 p.m. about a woman with a firearm in the 100 block of South Main Street. The caller gave police the vehicle's description and license plate number. Officers stopped the vehicle and when the woman inside got out, a small baggie fell from her lap.
