Music disturbance, 2:32 a.m. January 22, 17000 block of Highway 62 South in Orangefield. Assault with knife, 3:46 a.m. January 22, Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. Burke First, Bears Second at Jasper

The LCM boys finished in second place at the Jasper golf tournament played at Rayburn Country Club.   The Bears were led by individual champion Jack Burke who shot a fine 72 to beat the second place finisher from Nederland Conner Kemp who shot 76. Jane Barber Childers

Jane Barber Childers, 93, of Orange, Texas, passed away on January 28, 2018, in Orange.   Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 1, 2018, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Lynn Ashcraft and Reverend Justin Childers. A private family burial will follow the service.   Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 12:00 p.m.   Born in Orange, Texas, on March 4, 1924, she was the daughter of Ernest and Hettie (Parish) Barber. Cards Sweep Cowboys; Streak at 23

Moe Kinard scored 24 points to lead four Lamar University Cardinals in double figures, while Kiandra Bowers registered her 30th career double-double as LU rolled to its 23rd straight home win, an 83-58 decision over the McNeese Cowgirls in a Southland Conference women’s basketball game Saturday. The Cardinals (13-6 overall, 8-1 Southland) won their fifth straight game. A total of 716 Lamar University students earned places on the President’s List for the 2017 fall semester, President Kenneth Evans announced. Students who qualify for the President’s List carry a full course load of 12 semester hours or more with grade point averages of 4.0 for that semester.
