Four more vehicle burglaries were reported in Orange Wednesday morning, all in the Northway Park area. On January 12, several vehicle burglaries happened in the same area. Orange Detective Captain Robert Enmon said all vehicles had been left unlocked. "We can't emphasize enough for people to lock their cars," he said. In addition, he said investigators think a gang of thieves from Houston did the smash and grab burglaries on vehicles parked at two Interstate 10 hotels. Babin On Train That Struck Truck
East Texas Congressman Brian Babin was onboard a train involved in a crash with a garbage truck in Virginia on Wednesday. Babin and other Republican members of Congress were taking the train to a conference at the Greenbrier resort in West Virginia. The crash killed one person in the garbage truck and five other persons were injured. Several of the lawmakers including Babin assisted in caring for those injured in the crash. Two people in a sedan had to be taken to a Beaumont hospital Tuesday morning after the car was hit broadside by a large pickup truck on Highway 87 South at Cypresswood Apartments. The collision at 6:50 a.m. shut down traffic on the state highway for about an hour. Orange police reported a Chevrolet Malibu leaving the apartments driveway pulled out in front of the Ford F250 truck that was traveling southbound on the inside lane. Commissioners Hold Court Tuesday
The Commissioners Court approved a reinvestment zone for a five-acre tract of land in Mauriceville on Tuesday. The reinvestment zone will allow for future potential tax abatements and other incentive agreements. Executive Director Jessica Hill with the Orange County Economic Development Corporation brought the request for the reinvestment zone to the Commissioners.
