Junior Alexus Henry smashed her own school record in the indoor high jump and moved to No. 2 in the NCAA this season to highlight day one of action at Texas A&M’s Charlie Thomas Invitational. Henry cleared 6-1 ¼ (1.86m) while competing in the event during the pentathlon. She surpassed her old record (5-11 ½) set in 2016 by nearly two inches. She is the first UTA female to top the 6-foot mark indoor or outdoor. OF Moving Forward After Harvey
Tropical Storm Harvey hit the Orangefield Independent School District hard last August. Flooding from the storm damaged the Orangefield High School and severely damaged the district’s elementary school. The school district’s superintendent Dr. Stephen Patterson said Orangefield received $2.5 million in insurance claims which maxed out the district’s flood insurance policy. McFarlane Finds Treasure
This year’s winner of the KOGT Mardi Gras Treasure Hunt, Luke McFarlane, is more of a baseball fan now than he was before the hunt started. The theme this year was a Who am I? Each day’s clue identified a former major league baseball player. McFarlane followed the first four days of clues which were used to identify Curt Simmons (Simmons Drive), Pumpsie Green (Green Avenue), George Strickland (Strickland Drive), and Billy Martin (Martin Luther King Jr. Drive). Woman Arrested For Assaulting Officer
On Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018 at 4:50 p.m. Pinehurst Police Officer K. Norton and Police Chief Fred R. Hanauer III responded to a residence in the 4000 block of W. Park in reference to Criminal Trespass. The homeowner called 9-1-1 to report that a white female had entered his residence and was refusing to leave. She then walked upstairs, entered a bedroom and laid on the bed, still refusing to leave. Law Enforcement Trying To Solve Break-ins
Several vehicles in rural areas of Orange County were hit by burglars Wednesday night, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Most had been left unlocked. Sheriff's Spokeswoman Janois Grizzaffi said the burglaries were in the Wexford Park area of Vidor and along FM 105 in the Orangefield area, mainly in the Bobcat Trails subdivision. Also, a car was stolen from an Orangefield house and another from a house in Vidor. Grizzaffi did not know whether the stolen cars had been unlocked or whether the keys were inside. Restaurant Reports Are Back
Orange County Health Inspector James Scales went to 19 businesses or restaurants with food during January and none had perfect scores. The Taco Bell on North Main Street was the highest with a 98. The lowest score was an 82 for the Subway on Highway 12 in Vidor. Scales cited "lots of cleaning and organizing needed" and said the ice machine had "heavy mold." In addtion, the hand-washing station did not have hot water. He also made three inspections with no scores. Those were for Little Pirate Learning Center in Vidor after the business got a new owner.
