Covering sports in Orange County for a long time now, I've been told many a story about different athletes and great games that have come out of Orange County that were "before my time." One of those sports that I heard a lot about was men's fast pitch softball and some of the local legends. Lightning is believed to be the cause of a large fire Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters got the call around 4pm after people in the area heard two loud explosions before fire broke out at some holding tanks at the corner of Hwy. 87 and CR 4995 in Newton County, which is on the east side of Hwy. 87, just south of the Hartburg overpass. Smoke could be seen from miles away as firefighters from Newton County, ESD #3 & 4, and the Orange Fire Dept. assisted in putting out the blaze in seven of the eight tanks that caught fire with water and foam. Harvey Forms Need To Be Filled Out For Accuracy
The Orange County Appraisal District is asking all property owners to turn in the Hurricane Harvey forms mailed out at the end of last year. The forms are also found on the district's website and may be filled out online. "We're urging people to turn them in whether they flooded or not," said Deputy Chief Appraiser Scott Overton. The one-page form has four questions besides the basic information for name and address. The district wants the form turned in by March 9 to prepare an accurate list of property values for the local taxing entities. Three Mustangs Sign Wednesday
Paul Ivory, Blake Robinson, and Jarron Morris used National Signing Day to ink their scholarships to play college football. Ivory, an All-District lineman and All-State Academic will play for Davidson College out of Davidson, North Carolina. He will be playing for Scott Abell, who just got the job in January. Robinson, an all-district receiver, is staying closer to home and playing at Lamar University for second year head coach Mike Schultz. BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University signed four high school standouts to National Letters of Intent, and added four transfers announced head coach Mike Schultz at a press conference Wednesday at the Dauphin Athletics Complex.
