Anita Lyn Wilkinson Dunn, 59, of Orange, Texas, died on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Harbor Hospice, in Beaumont, Texas. Lyn battled cancer with courage and strength; she fought the good fight to the very end. Her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ took her home and healed her permanently. Lyn was born January 20, 1959, in Orange, Texas, to Marvin M. Wilkinson and Josie (Gomez) Wilkinson. St. Mary Catholic School Student Council officers attended the annual, Texas Association of Student Councils State Convention in San Marcos. They participated in many leadership sessions. Zoning Request Denied in BC
The Bridge City Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing Monday with the City Council. The hearing was done to receive public comments on a request to change the zoning for a stretch of FM 408 from single family residential to second commercial. The owner of the property Juan Ceja wants to build town homes there. Seven citizens spoke against granting the request. The primary concern was the drainage in that area of FM 408 is already not good and building town homes on the land would make a bad situation worse. Commissioners Still Discussing Harvey Issues
The Commissioners Court followed through Tuesday with a promise to support the City of Vidor in its endeavor to request the General Land Office to remove the requirement of choosing either the Buyout program or the Acquisition program. The current policy from the General Land Office requires municipalities and counties to choose either program, but not both for the Hurricane Harvey recovery funds. McDonald Expects Good Things From Bobcats
Last season was a good one for the Orangefield Bobcats in their first season under Coach Jake McDonald. The coach reminded that last season the Bobcats won 18 games the last one was a thrilling play-in game against the Bridge City Cardinals before being eliminated by the Shepherd Pirates in the playoffs. “It was definitely something to build on moving forward,” McDonald replied. Driver Not Believed To Be On Phone
The Waste Management worker who was killed after a car hit him Monday afternoon on MLK Drive was 28-year-old Derrick Kane of Beaumont. Orange Police Captain Robert Enmon said the driver of the car that hit Kane as he was working by a garbage truck is in a hospital and has not given investigators a statement. Police checked the 18-year-old woman's phone and she was not texting or talking at the time of 4:30 p.m. crash, he said. She was on her way to work at the time. The third round playoff game between West Orange-Stark and Jasper will be played at Lamar University on Friday at 7:30. Tickets will be on sale in the WOS Athletic office the following days: Thursday, November 29 from 9-12 and 1-3pm and Friday, November 30 from 9-12pm only.
