Orange police Sunday afternoon talked a man in Navy Park from shooting himself. The man stood with a pistol pointed at his head for 45 minutes starting about 2 p.m. He was outside in the area around First and Moreell streets. Police had to keep their weapons aimed on him in case he turned the gun toward officers. The man was coaxed into putting his gun down and was then taken into custody so he could be taken for mental health treatment. Girls Playoff Scores From Monday
A cold shooting night for the Orangefield Lady Bobcats ended their playoff run in the first round with a 50-37 loss to Huntington. The game, played in Kountze, saw both teams start cold with a 2-2 tie after 4 minutes. In the second quarter, the Devilettes started strong but it was the Bobcats who scored 17 points in the last four minutes to take a 25-23 lead at the half. Rollover On Tulane Monday
A 53-year-old Vidor man was injured Monday morning after his pickup truck rolled over several times after going off the roadway of Tulane Road. However, his injuries are not considered to be life-threatening. The Texas Department of Public Safety reported John Suire was driving a Dodge pickup truck eastbound on Tulane near Highway 62. For an unknown reason, the truck went off the road and rolled over several times before stopping. BC Creating Beautification Committee
Tropical Storm Harvey did not hit Bridge City as hard as it did other cities in the county or as Hurricane Ike did in 2008, but there was still some flooding. The heavy rain of a week ago did cause flooding in some Bridge City homes. One of the causes is poor drainage which is the result of debris and other trash blocking ditches. Carl Harbert and Eric Andrus are both on the City Council in Bridge City. They have met and agree it is time for creation of a Beautification Committee in the city. St. Mary Catholic School’s Student Council delivered their Valentine Express as they do each year.
