The city of Orange will continue to pick up Harvey debris until the end of the month, but City Manager Dr. Shawn Oubre said the city will have to deal with the little stuff. That's a referral to the small remains left behind in yards after the grappling trucks have taken away the big mounds of trash. Oubre told the council the city appreciates property owners raking up and picking up the remains. However, the city can have options to help clean. Governor Promises Money For Mitigation Projects
Governor Greg Abbott Tuesday announced that about $1 billion will be available for hazard mitigation projects along the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Harvey. The money from FEMA will pay for projects designed to help Texas rebuild and reduce the risk of future damage from flooding and hurricanes. The hazard mitigation funding will be operated by the Texas Division of Emergency Management. Cities and counties can submit applications for projects. Burglars Find More Unlocked Vehicles
Two doughnut shops in Orange have been hit by burglars in five days. Detectives are looking for any crumbs of evidence to catch the crooks. Early Wednesday morning, employees at the Donut Palace, 5603 North 16th Street, discovered the break-in when they arrived for work. Workers at the Donut Hole, 1613 North 16th Street, found a broken glass door when they arrived at work. Also, car burglars have struck again in the Little Cypress area. Debris Pickup Thru February For Pinehurst
Debris pickup in Pinehurst will conclude by the end of February. City Administrator Robbie Hood addressed the Pinehurst City Council on Tuesday informing them of his intention to cease the removal of debris caused by Tropical Storm Harvey on the last day of this month. Contractors are taking care of the debris removal which is left. Hood indicated the city would continue to help citizens move existing debris closer to the street for removal. Last season the Lady Bears of Little Cypress-Mauriceville made one of their furthest runs in the post season for several years. Coach Dena Adkins and her Lady Bears made it to the fourth round of the playoffs before being eliminated by an outstanding Liberty Hill team. McFatter Takes Over Lady Mustangs
Last year was a tough one for the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs. With that season behind them the Lady Mustangs have a new coach in Tiffany McFatter who is excited to take over the program at West Orange-Stark. Coach McFatter has some young ladies returning to build on for the new season. Pitcher Mariah Mims is showing improvement in her senior year which will help the Lady Mustangs’ cause.
