House Fire Being Investigated
Orange Fire Marshal John Bilbo is investigating the cause of a Wednesday afternoon fire at a house where police were called two and a half hours earlier when a man threw a brick at a person. The house at 1037 Clairmont Drive off Bob Hall Road was heavily damaged by the fire. No occupants were injured. Another 16th Street business in Orange was hit by burglars on Wednesday night. Employees of Martha's Seafood (formerly Crystal Seafood) arrived at work Thursday to discover the glass front door had been smashed and the cash register stolen. The seafood restaurant is at 1609 16th Street next door to the Donut Hole, which had a similar break-in on the night of February 8, six days earlier. Girls Golf Competes In Vidor Tournament
The LCM Lady Bear Golf Team finished fifth at the Vidor Golf tournament. The Lady Bears were led by Seniors Jessica Mclain who tied her career best with a 100 and Senior Marlee Bird who shot a career best 101. Senior Kaylee White shot 122, Freshman Gracie Greer shot 131 and Freshman Faith Stanley shot 133. Team total was a season low 454. Hardin Jefferson was first with a fine 351. Vidor was second with a score of 415. Tarkington was third with a 421. Silsbee was fourth with a 428. Bobcats Looking For Bigger, Better Season
2017 saw a change in softball coaches for Orangefield. The Lady Bobcats once again made the playoffs and won a first-round series under Rebekah Ragsdale in her first year at the helm. This year Coach Ragsdale has many of the girls back from that strong group of Lady Bobcats. Only one senior graduated last year. Four seniors Kaylee Ancelot in the circle, Autumn Frost at shortstop, Kinlee Gipson at first base, and Kristin Broussard in the outfield will lead the Lady Bobcats.
