Mustangs Win; Tuesday Scores
B'Jan Arvie of WOS battles Jasper's Jacorian Limbrick for a rebound Tuesday in Lumberton West Orange-Stark survived a furious rally by Jasper to win 74-71 in Lumberton Tuesday in the bi-district round of the 4A playoffs. The Mustangs jumped out to a 16 point lead in the second half, only to watch Leontay Sells and the Bulldogs climb back and cut it to one before Devontra Ranton hit two free throws for the three point win. Jervondric Simmons shot the lights out with 30 points while Ranton added 20 for WOS. WOS Choir Students Going To State
Ten West Orange – Stark High School choir students have earned advancement to the State Solo and Ensemble Contest. Each earned a rating of “1” at local competition. Advancing are (see picture) front row, Jasmine Smith, Roshni Lauji, Amori Haley, Hannah Chatman; (second row) Isaiah Chatman, Manuel Franklin, and Jaela Ross. Cards Roster Looks Impressive
To say the Bridge City Cardinals were young last year would be an understatement. They played five to six freshmen throughout the season. When the season finally came to end in the fourth round of the playoffs the Cardinals were a seasoned and tough group of players. Coach Chad Landry will guide Bridge City again this year with a solid group of returning lettermen. It starts with Schuyler Thibodaux behind the plate who is a four-year starter for the Cardinals. Lavern Dorr Premeaux, 97, of Beaumont, Texas, former resident of Orange, Texas and Vinton, Louisiana, passed away on February 19, 2018, in Beaumont. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary Cemetery in Orange. Early Voting Underway
Early voting starts Tuesday for the March 6 party primary races across the state. The Republican Party has the only contested local races with incumbents facing opposition. County Judge Brint Carlton is being challenged by Dean T. Crooks. Kenneth (Ken) Luce is also on the ballot for the position but he has announced he is not running. Precinct 2 County Commissioner Barry Burton is facing Theresa Adams Beauchamp. Precinct 4 Commissioner Jody Crump is running against Robert Viator. Police Shoot Charging Dog
Orange police shot and tazed a charging pit bull Sunday morning in the Brownwood area after the dog had forced a man up a tree. The dog was later euthanized. Officers went to the 2300 block of Fifth Street at 10:30 in the morning after a 9-1-1 call. They met a man who said the dog had tried to attack him and he climbed a tree. The man has young children and was worried because the dog had been aggressive and tried to bite him. Officers said they saw the dog when they were talking to the man. Bears Squeak By Diboll
The LCM Bears advanced to the second round of the 4A playoffs after holding off Diboll 43-42 in Kountze. Christian Weatherly kept the Bears in the game with solid play on both ends of the floor. He finished with 16 points, the only Bear in double figures. Dominique Guy lead three Lumberjacks in double figures with 14. The Bears will play the winner between Hardin-Jefferson and Wheatley.
