The Orange County Sheriff's Office received a call last night in reference to a social media post by a Little Cypress High School student. The post, which was deleted shortly after it was posted, indicated a “threat of violence” and was taken very seriously by the Sheriff’s Office. Detectives responded to the teen’s residence and spoke with him and his parents. A directive to apprehend was issued by an Orange County judge and the teen, a 16 year old white male, was transported to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Detention facility. Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School Engineering students traveled to the Beaumont Event Centre for Junior Achievement's Engineering Job Shadow Lunch. Students worked closely with engineers from several businesses within the community, listened to engineers explain career paths, and completed science demonstrations and challenges. Walter Joseph Babineaux, age 85, of Orange, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. WO Has Election Without Candidates
The West Orange City Council approved Tuesday holding a joint election in May with two other entities. The council agreed to hold elections with the West Orange-Cove School District and the Orange County Navigation and Port District at the West Orange Community Center. The City of West Orange will be electing three members to the City Council, but there are no contested races according to Mayor Roy McDonald. Bobcats Building On 2017 Success
The Orangefield Bobcats baseball team had a successful season last year. The Bobcats made the post season, won two series in the playoffs, before being eliminated in a one-game playoff with the West Orange-Stark Mustangs. Coach Tim Erickson is in his second year as the Bobcats’ baseball coach and returns several key players from last year which should help Orangefield compete successfully again in district. Three juniors will be in the lineup that have been starters since they were freshmen. Erickson also has a couple of seniors with varsity experience. Many baseball tournaments around Texas were cancelled this Thurs-Sat because of rain. LCM was scheduled to be in the Elkhart Tournament. Police Dealing With Threats At School
West Orange police were called to West Orange-Stark High School Wednesday morning after a 14-year-old said in class that he could shoot up the school, said Assistant Police Chief Jesse Romero. It's one of a handful of threats that local police have had to check out during the past week since the gun slaughter of students at a high school in Parkland, Florida. Man Scammed On Social Media
A resident of Orange learned the hard way about buying a car on social media. He is now out $1,000 in eBay cards. The man went to the Orange police station Tuesday to report the fraud. Police said he saw the vehicle on a Facebook sell site on Sunday and contacted the person selling it. The two then communicated through Gmail. The purchaser was told to use the eBay gift cards to buy the vehicle on the eBay site. However, he never got the vehicle and eBay did not have records of the deal.
