The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth. But unlike Noah's ark, St. Paul Episcopal Church did not float. Water covered the floors and carpets. Water rose up to the seats of the wooden pews. And water ruined the pipe organ. Tropical Storm Harvey ruined the 1947 stone Gothic-style church in the Old Orange Historic District. With countless hours of volunteer work, insurance and donations, the church has a new look and a new spirit. Orange May Spend Money On Improvements
The Orange City Council will decide whether to spend up to $200,000 for infrastructure improvements downtown to help a new restaurant opening in the historic Southern Printers building on Fifth Street. The restaurant is the Boardwalk Grille and the owner of the business is currently remodeling the space. During the past 20 years, the space has been used for a sandwich shop and two coffee shops. OF Tennis Brings Home Silver
Orangefield competed in the Woodville Varsity Invitational on Friday, February 23rd. The Bobcats brought home several second place medals. Taylor Decker and Megan Ibeck won the silver after a loss to Kountze in the Girls Doubles finals. Both Mixed Doubles team also advanced to the finals. Christy Luoung and Luke Truncale had wins over Vidor and Warren before a loss to Nederland in the “A” division. Cameron Choate and Dylan Williams competed in the “B” division. Griffith, Bears Have Experience
Last season the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears failed to make the playoffs which is very unusual for the program. Coach Steve Griffith lost just one senior to graduation from that team. Only Seth Dronett the Bears’ left fielder is gone. Griffith expects to field pretty much the same team as last year. Michael Lee is in his fourth year on the LC-M varsity and is expected to be the leader. Slade Green will play his third year for the Bears. Odalite was a member of Eastgate United Pentecostal Church in Vidor. She enjoyed reading mystery books and loved all children.
