Monday night around 8pm firefighters from Orange County ESD 2, 3, and 4 along with Newton Co. ESD 1 responded to a house fire at 382 Rose in the McLewis area just off Hwy. 62 N. Matt Manshack, ESD 3 Fire Chief said the owner had just about completed a remodel after being flooded by Harvey. No one was home at the time. The fire was coming through the roof when they arrived. “Rebuild Texas” Helping OC Schools
County and school officials gave their appreciation Monday to the Rebuild Texas Fund which is helping to restore schools in Orange County damaged by Tropical Storm Harvey. "Rebuild Texas" is giving more than $500,000 dollars to provide portable buildings for the Little Cypress-Mauriceville, Orangefield, and Vidor school districts. "This will help cover the 10% that's not covered by FEMA," said Commissioner John Gothia. Bear Bass Teams Compete On TBend
Some 400 boats signed up for the high school bass tournament on Toledo Bend Sunday. The LCM Team, lead by Nellie Miller, placed seven teams in the top 40. Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Fayette Fletcher “Bitsy” Anger, age 82, of Orange, Texas went to Heaven on Thursday, February 22, 2018 in Port Arthur, Texas. Bitsy was born in Beaumont, Texas on Sunday, September 15, 1935, the son of John William Anger and Dorothy Pipkin Anger. He was a life-long resident of Orange after moving from Beaumont with his family at the age of two. Bitsy graduated from Lutcher Stark High School in 1954 where he played on the football and golf teams. Following high school, he attended both Stephen F. Austin and Lamar University. Orange Police Reports
Orange police are investigating a case of injury to the elderly after a 67-year-old woman was sprayed with pepper spray during a disturbance in the Brownwood neighborhood Friday night. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the woman's eyes, face and mouth were burning, but she did not seek medical care. Police had a 911 call to the 2100 block of Sixth Street about 8 p.m. Friday night because of the disturbance. Someone used the pepper spray during the event. Accident Causes Power Outage
People living in North Orange County along Highway 87 went without electricity for about eight hours Sunday afternoon into the evening because a truck hit a utility pole. The driver of the pickup truck hydroplaned off HIghway 87 Sunday afternoon near the Sabine River Authority offices. The truck hit the electrical pole, which knocked out power to dozens of customers. The Southeast Texas High School Fishing Tournament was pushed from Saturday to Sunday at Toledo Bend because of high winds Saturday. Well Sunday's weather conditions weren't much better but the young fishermen and their captains braved the weather to catch some spawning bass. SRA Opens Spillway Gates (2am UPDATE)
Sunday evening the Sabine River Authority announced the opening of ELEVEN spillway gates at one foot each after Toledo Bend Reservoir reached 172.50 following another weekend of rainfall. The total CFS is currently 18,425. Compare that to Feb. 21 when the lake level was at 169.4 and CFS was 210 with the gates closed. But currently it's far away from the 200,000+ CFS seen in the 2016 floods when the river crested at 33.24 ft. Low level flooding along the Sabine River is expected.
