Restaurant, City Agree On Downtown Project
Orange is getting a million-dollar restaurant along the Sabine River boardwalk. Tuesday night, the Orange City Council and Orange Economic Development Corporation approved granting up to $200,000 for infrastructure improvements for the business. The restaurant will be the Boardwalk Grille owned and operated by Jake and Lacey Lemoine. Jake Lemoine's family has long been restauranteurs in Orange. Commissioners Discuss Flooding, Tax Abatement
Orange County Emergency Management Coordinator Ralph Valenciano is monitoring both the Neches River and the Sabine River to be ready to issue warnings to citizens if flooding gets more severe. Western Orange County is experiencing flooding from the Neches River. Valenciano told the Commissioner Court Tuesday that flooding from the Neches River is already affecting areas in the western end of the county and is not expected to crest until Saturday, March 3, with a level of about 7.5 feet. Authorities Searching For Runaway
Law agencies in Orange County are searching for a young man with "emotional issues" who ran away from family Monday when they stopped at the Crawdad's on FM 1442 off Interstate 10. Orange Police Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the man is about 30 and is "not to our knowledge" dangerous. Family members were driving him from Katy to Lafayette. When their vehicle stopped at the store, he jumped out and ran into woods. Hargrove Announces Retirement
Longtime Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD Superintendent Dr. Pauline Hargrove has announced she is retiring in August. Hargrove is an Orange native who has spent her adult life as an educator, all within the district. She spent 12 years as a teacher, 14 years as a principal, and has been LC-M superintendent for 18 years. Moderate Flooding Expected In Deweyville
The Sabine River Authority is releasing water from Toledo Bend dam and moderate flooding is predicted in the Deweyville area. However, the releases are a fraction of the amount that was released during the March 2016 flood. No flooding is predicted along the Sabine in Orange. The river authority reports 11 gates are open at one foot each and both generators are operating. The gates are releasing 11,000 cubic feet of water per second and the generators are released 13,525 cubic feet per second for a total of 24,425 cubic feet per second.
